Dirk Smit

For the Kama City Residency Biennale Dirk Smit will design and build a boat. This boat will be made by folding wood — in the same manner as a folded-paper boat. He sees this boat as a symbol for childhood memories, memories of lost family, and on the grandest scale as a symbol for the relation between The Netherlands and Japan.

Dirk Smit is a multi-disciplinary designer and co-founder of NulZes in Eindhoven — a collective made up of various international designers, craftsmen and makers. He builds spaces and interiors, makes images and installations and organises events. More often than not, he realizes impossible ideas, creates bizarre installations and unexpected situations.
