The Future Residency begins on June 6, 2015 with the Kama City Residency Biennale.

In the summer of 2015, various creative disciplines from Japan and the Netherlands will come together for The Kama City Residency Biennale in Southern Japan (Kyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture). For three months, Dutch and Japanese residents will make the mountain city of Kama their home. They will create original work in close collaboration with local craftsmen and inhabitants inspired by the conceptual theme of Memory and the material themes Paper and Wood. In addition to creating original work, during their three months stay the residents will also
1) develop a community based program, which can be anything as simple as a soccer tournament to something more complex such as a theatre performance, with the people of Kama City, and
2) create a physical object in cooperation with the community. These two additional projects will be developed while in residence and will be the connecting factor between the residents and the local community, also long after the biennale has ended.

This event is organized by Amsterdam based publishing and curatorial duo The Future in close collaboration with Hiroki Oda Museum, the local municipal government, and the local population.
6月から8月の下旬にかけ、嘉麻市レジデンシー・ビエンナーレが開催されます。嘉麻市の廃校となった千手小学校で、4名のオランダ人クリエイターと3名の日本人クリエイターが地元の職人とアーティストと共に、新しい作品を作ります。その中で、講演会や映画上映など、様々なイベントが開催されます。レジデンシー終了後、レジデンシー期間中に制作した作品は嘉麻市立織田廣喜美術館、福岡、大阪、東京、アムステルダム、デン・ハーグ、アイントホーフェンの様々なギャラリーや美術館で展示されます。 レジデンシー期間中の90日間、下記の3つの活動が行われます。
◊ レジデンス入居者は、嘉麻市に来る前に考えた自身のアイディアに基づいて作品を制作します。レジデンシーは、アーティストが集中して作品に取り組むための環境を提供することを重要な柱としています。
◊ 入居者は地元の住民、企業や職人と共にプログラムや作品を制作する必要があります。これは嘉麻市に居住しながら取り組むプロジェクトです。
◊ 入居者は自身が滞在する地域へ、形のある変化を加える必要があります。具体的には、地元の素材を使用し、地域社会と協力して新しい建物、菜園、改装されたキッチンなどを作ることです。
このレジデンシーによって、海外の専門家や日本人アーティスト、作家、デザイナー、思想家などに貴重な体験を提供するだけでなく、レジデンシーの参加者が嘉麻市と強い絆を育み、地域の発展に貢献することが我々の願いです。
